Special Ops 1.5  Story

Himmat Singh, steadfast Research and Analysis (RAW) agent who leads a global network The Intrepid Indian Spies gets a complete solo treatment in this strong and consistent sequel to Special OPS, a Hotstar Specials series that landed with us a year and a half ago when the world was a very different place. Consisting of four episodes totaling three hours and a little, it’s tense and gripping, if just a little thin around the edges. With Kay Kay Menon in good shape and Vinay Pathak (in her role as Abbas Sheikh), Aftab Shivdasani (playing a RAW spy and happily married man) and Aadil Khan (as the main antagonist) delivering solid performances, the show gallops in a beautiful, steady pace.

Plot Special Ops 1.5

Special Ops 1.5 was developed and co-written by Neeraj Pandey, who, like him, shares directing responsibility with Shivam Nair at the beginning of the season. Pandey’s experience in the espionage genre is very helpful.It has a compact quality, born from a considered and moderate mix of emotions, surprises, and moments of psychological depth, the story focuses on the personal and professional encounters that shaped the life and career of the RAW superspy, the cat 20 years ago he plugged in his theory that one of the terrorists who were involved in the 2001 attack on parliament escaped from the Delhi police network.

The years immediately following the incident are viewed from the perspective of Deputy Police Inspector Abbas Sheikh (Vinay Pathak) of Delhi, who is summoned by a two-person interview committee (the same who interviewed Himmat Singh himself in the first season) to shed light on the experienced secret agent and his exploits, Himmat is a year before retirement and his pension package, Abbas is said, will depend on “Himmat Singh Himmat Singh kaise bana yeh bahut interesting story hai,” says the inspector, before proceeding to reconstruct Himmat’s development in the period between 2001 and 2003.

Himmat’s story has it all: police antics, clashes with shady operators, an unceremonious suspension from duty, shocking revelations and personal tragedies that leave a scar and change the course of your life. Abbas claims it’s interesting, it’s also revealing because it’s not just about a man, it’s about a world on the edge, riddled with girls who are more than pretty faces, deadly honey traps, intelligence leaks, seedy spies. and Traitor, a senior police officer who wants to thwart Himmat’s plans, a renegade secret agent who wants to do more or less the same thing, and a journalist friend whom Himmat is dying to introduce to her parents.

The main character obviously has his hands full, as his work takes him and / or his colleagues in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine, where much of the show’s pre-climatic sequences were filmed.These scenes are the highlights of the season, with three key players Menon, Shivdasani and Aadil Khan embroiled in a Doordie clash. There is more. An Indian diplomat who was hospitalized in Colombo (Santanu Ghatak) meets a beautiful medical intern (Aishwarya Sushmita). Elsewhere, a Navy Commodore (Vijay Vikram Singh) falls under the spell of a Russian “sparrow” (Maria Ryaboshapka) and is desperately pushed against the wall. It mentions details of a meeting between Himmat and Mahendra Chautala (Harssh Singh), Deputy Commissioner of the Delhi Police, at which he was not present.

One of the interviewers (Parmeet Sethi) wants to know if it was Himmat who told him what Abbas replied negatively, but quickly points out that he is in the information gathering business and therefore knows information that is not in the public domain are domain. The rest of the narrative follows the principle that Abbas is a man who knows everything about Himmat and his key operations in the years that the four episodes are central.

The brevity of the story is probably one of the reasons, but more likely the fact that Himmat’s story is not the entirety of the Special Ops saga that is behind the intriguing numerical suffix, The Himmat saga is only half the Special Ops narrative, though considering that there is a whole team that he works with in his duty and that he also has a family that is an integral part of his orbiting wife Saroj (Gautami Kapoor) and his daughter Pari (Revathi Pillai). indeed has a significant presence in Special ops 1.5 .

The four episodes of this mini-season are disturbingly titled after films by the poet Gulzar Aandhi, Mere Apne, Lekin and Ijaazat. One wonders what the connection could be between a spy thriller and Gulzar’s intimate, interpersonal dramas. Is the preponderance of flashbacks in the poet-filmmaker’s work the reason the creators of this show about a man’s story were inspired, if only on a superficial level, by his films? at various turning points in his life: starting his family, an unhappy romance, his deep bond with former college classmate and secret agent Vijay Kumar (Aftab Shivdasani), and a personal tragedy that rocked the stoic man to death.

Conclusion

Equally important in this Special Ops season are two headstrong public figures, the politically ambitious young son of an opposition leader and a female Bangladeshi minister. The mother of the first asks Himmat for help, the second is in her line of fire. In the course of the Dhaka operation, the path of the protagonist crosses that of Maninder Singh (Aadil Khan) – the two men are initially on the same side of the war. Then something breaks and Maninder goes rogue. He brings Himmat Singh to the limits of his persistence and cunning. To be considered a success, everything Special Ops 1.5 had to be was half as decent as its predecessor. Is much more.It begins to work and creates enough excitement and intrigue to justify its existence.
